Guidelines for Enjoying Alcoholic Beverages

If you’re following a healthy eating plan, what you drink is just as important as what you eat. Certain high-calorie beverages (like sugary sodas and fruit juices) can be diet busters. But what about alcoholic beverages like wine and beer? It’s recommended that women limit their intake to one alcoholic beverage a day, and men to one or two a day. More than that not only adds calories but can also sabotage your willpower. Before grabbing a drink, check out our brief guide:

  • Don’t drink too early in the evening because you may be tempted to have several drinks, and the calories start to add up.
  • Do alternate with seltzer and water to stay properly hydrated. You can also add seltzer to your wine for a refreshing spritzer.
  • Do eat a nutritious meal or snack containing lean protein before you start drinking. The protein helps to stabilize blood sugar and prevent cravings.

    Secret Superfood: Tomatoes

If this doesn't make you long for the farmers market - nothing will! Hurry up spring! :)

In his expert series on affordable, accessible superfoods, author Dave Lieberman reveals the power of tomatoes, dispels tomato myths and shares simple preparation tips for deliciously nutritious meals.

    Why Tomatoes?

This incredible fruit (yes, it's a fruit!) is chock-full of micronutrients, vitamins and antioxidants that work together in a way that can ward off cancer, heart disease and other ailments. Scientific studies have shown that the more tomatoes you eat, the better. Cooking tomatoes is best of all because simmering them along with some heart-healthy oil, like olive oil, makes it even easier for the body to absorb all of the beneficial properties.

    just wanted to share...

Here is a really good article worth reading... its called Easy Ways to Healthy Living... here is an excerpt and a link to the rest - enjoy :)

"As Americans, we sure are busy. Juggling work, family and jam-packed schedules makes many of us vulnerable to what I call the "double whammy" -- little exercise and poor diet. Our daily obligations push visits to the gym to the wayside and we find ourselves forced to eat foods that are prepared by someone else -- whether they are packaged by a food company, made at a restaurant, or prepared for a lunch buffet at a local deli -- in the name of saving time.
